Good morning Parents/Carers,

Firstly, thank you for all your support at what is a rather strange time. Thank you also for everything you have and continue to do with your children. I understand that how difficult this must be for some and I myself will really miss teaching the class.

It is important that children keep up with their education but it is also crucial for them to look after their physical and mental wellbeing. I will, therefore, regularly send anything I think which could help your children keep active and practice mindfulness. Starting today, Joe Wickes will be posting daily workouts for children at 9am (The Body Coach on Youtube)- a perfect way to keep your children active. I have also received breathing cards from a parent (thank you!) which I have attached. The class tried some of the breathing exercises from these cards on Friday and found them useful to calm the mind- they particularly enjoyed ‘fire hands’.

I have attached a timetable for your children to complete this week listing what they need to do each day. For English, they will focus on researching and writing a non-chronological report this week, just like they would be doing in school. Children should use the website- kidrex.org -to safely research online. BBC Bitesize is also a useful source of information with videos and diagrams- https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/ztyr9j6.

For Maths, the focus will be fractions of amounts, again, just like it would be in school. For today’s activity- I have attached a power point with revision from Y4. I would like the children to complete the questions from the slides in their books/paper before revealing the answer and they should draw arrays (or use counters if you have them) to show their working.

There is computing work for children to complete each day (next week, I will focus on more foundation subjects e.g. science and music) and also a workout/yoga video on Youtube for them to exercise to. As stated on the sheet, I would like the children to watch Newsround daily in order to keep up-to-date with what is happening around the world.

All children can use this time off to also complete a project of their choice. Maybe they’d like to research about a certain animal, country or food… anything that peaks their interest. They can present this in any way they choose- a poster/ 3D model etc.

Thank you again and stay safe and healthy during this uncertain time,

Miss Whates.
