Summer Week 2 

A huge congratulations to Imogen W for winning the headteacher's award for her problem solving skills and resilience. 

FAB SCIENCE! 

This Friday, we had a scientist visit to teach us all about forces. The children were amazed by what you can do by expanding and contracting the air. 

Summer Week 1

Welcome back to the summer term! We have had a busy first week continuing our Extreme Weather topic. During our celebration assembly, the children who had completed half term projects were able to share their work with the whole school! 

In English, we have been learning about fantasy narratives and the children have been creating their own hero and villain characters. 

A huge congratulations to Scarlett St for winning the headteacher's award the character description of her fantasy characters, she used lots of descriptive language and was able to create a detailed piece of writing. 

 

Spring Week 9

A huge congratulations to Stanley for his editing and improving skills in English.  

 This week the children continued to learn about how to maintain healthy teeth; the children used the knowledge they gained from our dentist visit to brush their teeth effectively. The children then used a disclosure tablets to identify areas of their teeth that are often missed when brushing. The children really enjoyed this activity which has made them more confident with their brushing skills. 

 

Spring Week 8

A huge congratulations to Misty who received the headteacher's award her improved focus and behaviour. 

 

This week is Science week! The children have had two visits from women in science; one from Takeley Smiles who came to the children and gave a tutorial on how to keep clean and healthy teeth and a visit from a Vet who shared with the children what it takes to be a vet and answered some of the children's questions on veterinary science. 

Alongside this, the children have been learning about Marie Maynard Daly and her influence on biochemistry. 

The children also conducted an experiment this week on tooth decay. They investigated how different drinks impacted the enamel. By placing egg shells in different liquids and recording their findings. 

World Book Day! 

For World Book Day, Owl Class dressed up as their favourite book character and learnt a poem 'Zombie Poem' by Joshua Seigal. In the afternoon the whole school joined together in the hall to recite their class poem. An inspiring afternoon!

Spring Week 6

A huge congratulations to Ronnie who received the headteachers award for his problem solving skills in maths in this week. 

In maths, we have been looking at length and perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. We have made our own rectilinear shapes using lolly sticks as well as making our own shapes around the room. 

In science this week, we have been learning about our teeth and identifying the functions of them. 

In art, we have continued our Henry Moore unit by creating sculptures focusing on figure. 

Spring Week 5

A huge congratulations to Freddie  who received the headteachers award for his effort and enthusiasm across all subjects this week! 

In history this week, the class worked as archeologists to deduce who was buried at Sutton Hoo. The children were presented with artifacts which would leave clues as to what type of person has been buried. The children were excellent and worked in teams to solve the clues. 

In maths, we have been looking at length and perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. We have made our own rectilinear shapes using lolly sticks as well as making our own shapes around the room. 

In English, we have been learning about playscripts and performing a short scene (focusing on stage directions). 

Spring Week 4

A huge congratulations to Harriet  who received the headteachers award for her hard work both in and outside for school - well done!

This week in science, the children used a range of recycled materials to create soundproof headphones. The children first tested which materials reduced sound more efficiently. Then the class were put into groups to design, make and evaluate their designs.

 

Spring Week 3 

A huge congratulations to Lily who received the headteachers award for being a wonderful role model! 

This week the children finalised their adverts on a healthy snack including two persuasive paragraphs. In maths, we have looked at 2 and 3 digit division using the 'bustop' method. In science, we have continued to explore sound by investigating which objects make a high pitch and a low pitch. In Art, we have begun to design our Henry Moore Sculptures. 

I want to say a huge thank you to all the families who gave us their spare cardboard tubing as we have enough for each child to make their own sculpture. 

Spring Week 1 & 2

Welcome back to a new term in Year 4! The children have had a wonderful first few weeks back at school. A huge congratulations to Georgia and Pheonix who have won the headteachers award. 

This week, the children went on their first swimming lesson of Year 4! The whole class earned many marbles as they were polite and sensible whilst travelling to their swimming lesson. In English, the children have been designing their own healthy snack and have been focusing on persuasive techniques. In maths, we have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 10/100. 

In Art, we have been studying spiral art and looking at different poses. 

Key Stage 2 Christmas Performance

The children had two fantastic performances on Monday night! The sang Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin' Stevens. 

 

Autumn 2 - Week 6-7 

A huge congratulations to Charlie  for winning the Headteacher's award for his amazing singing and confidence in our KS2 concert rehearsals. 

This week, the children have finished their instruction writing until which they have shared with their parents! They have also finished their autumn maths units and have been enjoying problem solving. In science, we have been looking at states of matter. The children did a carousel of investigations looking at how water changes states. The children also investigated reversable change by turning steam into water and then into ice. 

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Cheerleading performance on Thursday! The children worked so hard on their routines, which definitely paid off on the day. 

Autumn 2 - Week 4

A huge congratulations to Robert for winning the Headteacher's award for his improved effort and enthusiasm this week! This week, the children have continued to consolidate their times tables (7s, 8s, 9s and 12) in maths. In English, they have been exploring their unusual pet and begun to write instructions on how to wash it. The children have really enjoyed this and have been extremely creative. 

In PE, we have continued to develop our cricket skills, such as counting scores and catching. The children have also been developing their cheerleading routine!

In music, we have been learning Mumma Mia by Abba. The children have been singing and playing the glockenspiel. 

 

Autumn 2 - Week 3

A huge congratulations to Grace who received the headteachers award this week for being a wonderful Kelso's Choice Monitor. This week the children have focused on their multiplication, looking at 6s, 7s, 9s tables. In English, we have been looking at instruction writing - How to Wash an Unusual Pet. In RE, we had a Christian Visitor who came to answer questions written by the children. 

In Science, we investigated gases by weighing how much carbon dioxide is inside two cans of fizzy drink and comparing our results.

 

Autumn 2 - Week 2

A huge congratulations to Alexandra for winning the headteacher's award for an improved attitude to learning and resilience in her writing. This week, the children have begun their cheerleading sequence - they have really shown great strength and rhythm.  In English, we have written our own acrostic poem focused on nature. 

 

Autumn 2 - Week 1 

A huge congratulations to Scarlett Si for winning the headteacher's award for being a great role model. A huge thank you to all the children who created Anglo-Saxon projects over the half term. These have now been displayed and shared with the class. This week, we have started a new English Unit on poetry. The children travelled round the school collecting nature vocabulary for their poems. 

In Art this week, we have started our Sonia Delaunay Circle Art. The children really enjoyed this and were able to express their creativity. 

I would also like to thank all the families for attending parents evening! 

 

Half Term 

This week the children have been demonstrating their knowledge of their new topics by creating a poster for the Anglo-Saxons. Alongside this, the children have been looking at the process of fossilisation. 

Week 6 

A huge congratulations to James and Tilda for winning the headteacher's award for their collaboration and problem solving skills. In English, we have finished our non-chronological reports on butterflies, which was shared with parents during drop-off on Friday. In science, we made our own ammonite fossils using salt dough. 

I would also like to thank all the families for attending parents evening! 

 

Harvest Festival

A huge congratulations to Aodhan who won the headteacher's award for his insightful contributions during our Brain Buddy session this week! 

This week the children went on a trip to Takeley Church and performed 'Let's Harvest' in front of Reverend Collin and KS2. The children performed their song in makaton sign language and their wonderful voices. 

Autumn Week 4

A huge congratulations to Hugo who won the headteacher's award for the most improved handwriting and receiving his pen lisence. 

 

In maths, the children have continued to explore place value and have been really enjoying this unit. We have looked at roman numerals, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. In English this week, we have started our new topic which is a non-chronological report on our class name. The class have been identifying the features of a non-chronological report whilst building their knowledge of Butterflies. 

In PE, we have continued to develop our partner balances as well as including jumps into our routines. 

For our topic subjects, we have explored soil formation and the ordinary lives of children in the Anglo-Saxon era. 

 

Autumn Week 3

A huge congratulations to Gabby who won the headteacher's award for her hard work and resilience in her writing! 

This week we have explored place value using Base10s, the children have made their own number lines up to 10,000. Alongside this, the children have been working as a team to solve problems.

In Art we have have been exploring shade and tone using a range of colours. 

In science, we have explored the properties of rocks! 

Autumn Week 2

A huge congratulations to Rory who won the headteacher's award for being an excellent role model this week! 

This week we have explored place value using Base10s, the children have made and partitioned their own numbers up to 10,000. Alongside this, the children have been working as a team to solve problems. 

In English, we have continued to develop their grammar and understanding of sentence structure. 

In Art we have been using compasses to explore abstract art in the style of Sonia Delaunay. 

Autumn Week 1

Our First Week

 

Butterfly class have settled in amazingly and have been a joy to teach this week! A huge congratulations to the WHOLE class who received the first headteacher's award in Year 4. 

We have done lots of settling in activities this week; Kelso's Choices, begun our tag rugby unit, self-portraits and completed our first ever free write!
