Over the last few weeks we have been studying The Amazon Rain forest. We have been looking at the weather they experience, its climate, the many different species of animals and comparing it to forests in the UK, such as Sherwood Forest. In Science we have been looking at flowering plants, the parts that make up a plant, water transportation, what keeps them healthy, pollination and finally fertilisation. In English we have been exploring poetry, looking at what makes a good poem, types of poems, its structure, what is type of language is included in poems, shape an acrostic poetry and finally creating a class poetry book. In maths we have increased our skills in multiplication by using the grid method, expanded method and shortened method. We then moved on to division and used the short bus stop method to improve our skills. Finally, in PE we have been creating our own Rain forest dance based on a piece of music and also we have been developing our mental, emotional and social well being by following a weekly yoga session. Phew! What a busy time since Christmas.

This week, in Design and Technology, we have been practising our sewing skills. The children have enjoyed doing the running stitch, the backward stitch and the whip stitch. In History the class have learnt all the 'gory details' of Ancient Egyptian mummification rituals and during Science we investigated the effects of friction. We discovered that the 'smoother the surface ' the less friction is caused and the further the vehicle will travel. During English we finished our non-chronological report on 'Hedgehogs' . The class discovered many amazing and fun facts using the I pads to do their research, facts such as 'hedgehogs enjoy playing with ping-pong balls and they like to eat cat and dog food. Finally, in Maths the children used their problem solving skills and worked on both addition and subtraction word problems.

Welcome back everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic half term! This week began, in English, with the children looking at and identifying the feature of a non-chronological text. In Maths, to the children's delight, we have been adding and subtracting 3 digit by 3 digit numbers using column method. In History the children looked at Ancient Hieroglyphic writing and created their own 'Cartouches' using the papyrus paper they'd made. Finally, in Science we started our new topic 'forces and magnets', the children wowed me with their knowledge and were excited about our 'drama driven' first lesson.

This week, in English, we have been looking at direct speech. The children have been learning how we use inverted comma's and where to put them when recording a speech dialogue. In Maths we have still been working on addition and subtraction using 3 digit numbers and multiples of 10's. Unfortunately, we have completed our final football session with our coach 'Katie', the children really enjoyed it and learnt so much. We have begun to investigate shadows in science and how they are formed using direct light. Next week we shall be completing our investigations into shadow patterns and I will update you with the pictures. Finally, in History we looked at the 'social' order of the Ancient Egyptian people and the children had to decide who they'd have been and why. Wow!! What a busy week we had.
