Our Trip to Boydells Dairy Farm - 12th June 2018
What a great week of learning we have had, made very memorable by our trip to Boydells Dairy Farm on Tuesday! The children thoroughly enjoyed every part of our busy day, from going on the coach, to seeing all of the animals and paddling in the stream. The farmer led us around to see the cows, pigs, horses, goats, turkeys, chickens, ducks, lamas, alpacas and a donkey. As we saw the different animals we continued to reinforce what their babies are called, learning that a baby turkey is called a poult. All of the children had the opportunity to milk a cow, bottle feed a lamb and hold a chick as well as stroke and feed many of the animals in their pens. During the rest of the week the children wrote about their experiences at the farm. Even our more reluctant writers have been very motivated to write this week!
Playing to Learn - Summer Term 1, 2018
This half term we have based our learning around 'traditional tales,' enjoying stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, the Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks, The Three Little Pigs and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have also had our own caterpillars in the classroom, and enjoyed observing their changes. We released the butterflies on a lovely sunny day. Have a look through the photos to see what else we have been learning!
Playing to Learn - Spring Term 2, 2018
We have had an exciting half term learning about growing plants and minibeasts. We planted our own broad bean seeds and watched them grow and change. We also planted cress seeds and enjoyed using the cress to make cream cheese and cress sandwiches. We explored different minibeast habitats during our Forest School sessions. Have a look through the photos to see what else we have been up to!
Playing to Learn - Spring Term 1, 2018
What a fantastic start to 2018 we have had! This half term we have learnt about people who help us and enjoyed visits from a road safety officer and police officers, as well as visiting the dentists in our local community. It is lovely to see the children being independent learners, using the resources we have in our class to play and explore. It is a great term for seeing lots of progress, especially in reading, writing and maths, with the children building on those essential early skills developed in the Autumn.
Playing to Learn - Autumn Term 2017
Have a look through photos of the Reception Class children exploring all the different areas of the curriculum through playful, active learning opportunities. The children have settled into 'big school' so well, and are confident to engage in a variety of activities in our classroom and outdoor area. We regularly go on local walks in Takeley, and for our Forest School sessions at Takeley Park.
Our Classroom Displays
Here is a selection of our classroom displays, developing and celebrating the children's learning. Keep coming back, as photos of new displays will be added in the future!
