Autumn Term 2018

What a great start to the new school year at Roseacres Primary School. In one term, nearly half the school have been out on a sports event and we've had some brilliant sports coaches visit our school too. In November, Year 1 and 3 took part in a cheerleading competition where they performed their routine against other schools. Year 3 came second in their year group and Year 1 came 2nd. Another event which some children attended was an archery competition. Miss Whates took a small group of Year 3 and 4 children to compete in an archery competition after having had some practise in school. They all tried really hard and improved throughout the competition.

Another event which Year 3 visited was a multi-sports event at Takeley Primary School. They rotated around different activities which involved skills including throwing and kicking a ball. It took part on the sports field and had a fun-filled afternoon. At the beginning of December, the whole of KS1 and KS2 had a fencing taster day with a fencing coach. he coach spent an hour with Year 1,2,3 and 4/5 and taught them all the basic skills of fencing. He introduced the concepts of attacking and defending and co-ordination of hands and feet through a variety of exciting games and exercises.  The children learnt how to use plastic and foam swords safely and the basic footwork for fencing

For Children in Need in November, some children took part in a dance-off organised by the Year 4/5s. This term, each class in KS1 and KS2 were lucky to have PE lessons from sports coaches. Year 3 were taught football and rugby, whilst Year 2 were taught basic ball skills and Years 1 and 4/5 were taught dance by our own dance coach, Mrs Blake.

Sports Update Spring Term 2018

This has been another great term for Sports at Roseacres. Year 1 and 3/4 took  part in a cheerleading competion, Year 2 attended a multi-sports afternoon and Year 1 also entered into a dance competition. Many after-school clubs have taken place including Multi-Sports, Karate and Street Dance. On Friday 23rd March, the whole school came dressed in their Sports Gear in aid of Sports Relief. The day started with a whole-school dance and in the afternoon, the class rotated between different teachers. We've also launched the daily mile! Let's hope next term is just as sporty.
